Ira Giri owns two Best in Class centers in Katy, Texas, located just west of Houston. A former computer programmer turned passionate educator, Giri opened her first location in 2013 and celebrated the opening of her second center two years later. She pioneered establishing Best in Class centers in Texas, with her center being the first of eleven to open across the Lone Star State. Presently, Best in Class franchise owners operate centers throughout Houston, Austin, and Dallas.

In 2014, to mark the first anniversary of her center’s opening, Giri organized a community math competition that achieved immediate success. Since then, students and families eagerly anticipate this now annual event, ticking off the days until its arrival.

The Annual Competition Is Made More Memorable with the Announcement of a Special Scholarship

In May of 2023, Giri hosted the 10th year of her academic competition, which has expanded beyond mathematics to include English and public speaking. This year’s event was marked by the launch of a scholarship program in honor of her son, who passed away in 2022—The Kanishk Giri Scholarship Program.

Ira Giri shared a presentation about the scholarship’s namesake and inspiration during the event. Kanishk Giri was a 20-year-old young man who grew up in his family’s Best in Class centers. He shared his mother’s love for education and enjoyed working with children through a robotics program. The annual academic competition provided a way to commemorate his life by passing on the gift of education. 

This year, over 60 students participated in this highly-anticipated competition. The two students who achieved the top scores in English and math were awarded scholarships exceeding their and their families’ expectations. These scholarships granted the winners free tuition for a year in the center’s enrichment program. Additionally, other awards were presented to the highest-performing students in each grade level.
